Known for its 34-million-year-old fossils from the late Eocene Epoch, Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument has provided scientists with valuable insight into local life from this prehistoric time. At the visitors center, displays of fossils and informative exhibits give a background of the ancient past of this region, and during the summer there are hourly ranger talks that provide even more information. Fourteen miles of trails range throughout the park, offering sights of the rock shapes that have formed throughout the centuries.
